You have just walked into your doctor's office. Before you can even tell him why you have come, he says to the nurse, "Penicillin!" Then, much to your dismay, he begins to prepare your injection. He has not listened to your symptoms. He knows nothing about your condition. But he is quick to offer a treatment.

It is obvious that the young people around us are in urgent need of a cure for their desperation, pain, and lostness. But before we begin to treat them, we must understand where they hurt and the underlying causes of their "symptoms." Before we can begin to develop an efficient strategy for changing their lives, it is important that we understand the young people we want to reach
